The U.S. State Department today approved the sale of 300 M1152 High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV) or Humvees for $55.5 million.
The Government of Lebanon had required to buy 300 HMMWVs. The acquisition will take place in two phases with 150 vehicles bought in each. It covers supply of spare and repair parts, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, technical and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistical and program support.
This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a partner country that continues to be an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East. These modern transport vehicles to improve Lebanon’s capability to meet current and future threats by improving its ability to move troops and supplies around the country to counter violent extremist organizations and to secure its border, Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a release.
Lebanon already operates over 1000 Humvees of various variants.
The principal contractor will be American General, South Bend, Indiana.
