CTech, Türkiye’s leading provider of satellite and line-of-sight communication technologies, showcased its expertise in critical communication systems through a strategic live demonstration at the World Defense Show (WDS) 2026 in Riyadh. From its exhibition booth, the company successfully controlled in real time an unmanned surface vessel (USV) operating in Istanbul—approximately 1,400 km away—via satellite link. The vessel was equipped with the AquaARX satellite communication terminal. This demonstration enabled visitors to experience firsthand the real-time operational use of secure and uninterrupted satellite communications.
This operation clearly demonstrated how operationally critical satellite communications are for unmanned systems, particularly unmanned surface vessels. The ability to maintain real-time, uninterrupted control over long distances once again highlighted the strategic importance of secure SATCOM infrastructure for modern platforms.
CTech General Manager Dr. Cüneyd Fırat commented on the live demonstration:
“By remotely controlling the unmanned surface vessel operating in Istanbul via satellite link from our booth in Riyadh, we demonstrated to our stakeholders the real operational capability of secure and uninterrupted satellite communications in the field. This capability is a fundamental requirement for unmanned systems in general and especially for unmanned surface vessels.
As CTech, we are transferring our deep satellite communication expertise—built on more than 400,000 flight hours on Turkish Aerospace-manufactured ANKA and AKSUNGUR UAV platforms—to the SATCOM capabilities of naval platforms. Today, a significant portion of the unmanned surface vessel projects implemented in Türkiye benefit from CTech’saccumulated know-how in satellite communications.
