WAHAJ and Nexter set-up a JV to localize production of 155mm ammunition for the Saudi Armed Forces

  • WAHAJ and Nexter Munitions, company of KNDS, set-up a joint-venture late 2023 to manufacture state-of-the art 155mm ammunition solutions for the Saudi armed forces and share investments on a long-term basis.
  • As a long-term partner of the Saudi Armed Forces, KNDS is actively supporting the development of the Ammunition Technological & Industrial Base in Saudi Arabia enacted under the KSA Vision 2030 program.

Two projects to enhance the industrial capacities of the KSA

The localization of the manufacturing of Modular Charges in KSA for 155mm artillery systems will be undertaken by the JV “WAHAJ NEXTER Industries”.

The Forging and machining of shell bodies for large calibre ammunition in KSA will be supported by NEXTER Munitions who will provide expertise and technical assistance to WAHAJ.

The 2 projects demonstrate that KNDS is fully committed to fulfil Industrial Participation Policy objectives in KSA within the framework of new contracts with Saudi Forces for the delivery of ammunition. 

A new way to develop our partnerships

The first board ²of the JV “WAHAJ NEXTER Saudi Industries” was held on the beginning of November 2023 to nominate board members, Mr. Bandar AL ZAMIL being the first Chairman of this company, who said “Wahaj is honoured to collaborate with KNDS in critical manufacturing technologies. This collaboration will contribute to the growth and development of Saudi Arabia’s capabilities, complying with the Vision 2030 of our country.” During this board, both the planning of the setting-up of the industrial facility and the commercial actions plan to be conducted in the coming months have been approved. 

As declared by Frantz CAILLAU, board member of the JV and Managing Director of NEXTER Munitions: “KNDS is proud to have set-up a new JV together with WAHAJ to build local capabilities in Saudi Arabia for state-of-the-art ammunition. Our long-term partnership with KSA is definitely taking a step further with WAHAJ and will contribute actively to KSA defence ambitions”.
