Technology to Top Agenda at IDEX Defence Conference 2015

The agenda for the upcoming IDEX Defence Conference has today been announced with defence technology topping the bill, as international defence industry leaders prepare to descend on Abu Dhabi next month.

Taking place on 21 February 2015, the IDEX Defence Conference is the official conference of the IDEX exhibition and will provide a platform for government departments, businesses and armed forces to discuss the foremost issues affecting the defence sector today.

The one day conference will encourage discussion on topics focussing upon the exhibition’s central theme of defence technology for the future and what this means in practice.

The conference willexplore important industry issues such as the role of future forces, the emerging technologies the military needs to be aware of and how these technologies can be developed. The UK Ministry of Defence’s Lt. General Tom Beckett CBE will share his thoughts and experiences on this topic in the first keynote session, setting the tone for the conference ahead.

With an increased emphasis on cooperation and joint international war operations, the IDEX Defence Conference will also examine how multinational, cross-service operations are collaborating. Industry experts will scrutinise existing methods of operations, force structures and training before shedding light on new technologies needed for more effective war fighting.

Lt. General Rainer Korff, Deputy Commander of the German Army, who will be speaking as part of a panel discussion dedicated to modern military interoperability, said:

"One of the key elements to effective defence is being able to communicate efficiently, whether that’s between forces or with external industry partners. The IDEX Defence conference provides a unique forum for conversation, debate and discussion on this topic, bringing together key stakeholders, industry experts and senior military figures attending from across the globe. With such a high-profile line up of spokespeople in attendance, I am looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say on one of the industry’s most important issues.”

Maj General Eng. (PSC) Hassan Salih Omer Mohammed Dein, Military Industry Corporation (MIC-Sudan) will also be presenting a case study focussing on the work of joint forces in Sudan. His keynote session will provide an in-depth analysis of the joint military efforts used to secure the Sudanese border against the threat of terrorism and ongoing political unrest.

Withmodern forces increasingly facing different threats beyond that of opposition army, navy and air forces, the conference willhighlight new threats – such as cyber-attacks – before identifying the technologies needed to counteract them. Pat Dewar, Executive Vice President of Lockheed Martin International and Vice Admiral MatthieuBorsboom, Royal Netherlands Navy, will lead a lively panel discussion on this topic.

Organised by Streamline Marketing Group, the IDEX Defence Conference 2015 will welcome key decision makers from government, military and the defence industry.
