Turkish defense firm STM has formalized two key partnership agreements in Malaysia, enhancing bilateral defense ties with a focus on naval platforms and tactical unmanned aerial systems. These agreements were inked during the 17th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2025), signaling a deepening of defense collaboration between Türkiye and Malaysia in the Asia-Pacific.
As part of the event, STM signed a memorandum of understanding with Malaysia’s Lumut Naval Shipyard SDN BHD (LUNAS), a well-established shipbuilding company. The agreement, aimed at advancing naval projects, was signed in the presence of top-level officials including Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Defense Minister Mohammed Khalid Bin Nordin, Türkiye’s Defense Industry President Professor Haluk Görgün, and STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz.
Güleryüz and LUNAS CEO Ir. Azhar Jumaat officiated the signing, highlighting a shared vision for maritime cooperation.
Naval Innovation on Display
Güleryüz pointed to STM’s strong naval track record, underscoring the ongoing construction of three LMS Batch-2 corvettes for the Royal Malaysian Navy, which began in Türkiye in 2024. He also unveiled a new multi-purpose support ship design developed specifically for Malaysia, showcased for the first time at LIMA 2025.
He described the naval cooperation as a meaningful step toward enhancing regional maritime security and fostering deeper ties between the two nations, while also promoting Turkish naval engineering capabilities and encouraging localized, high-value defense production.
Joint UAV Production Agreement with G7 Aerospace
In a separate agreement, STM teamed up with Malaysian aerospace firm G7 Aerospace to launch a joint production initiative for Tactical Mini UAV Systems within Malaysia. This collaboration seeks to boost indigenous manufacturing of advanced drone technologies and support the operational needs of the Malaysian Armed Forces.

Güleryüz concluded by reaffirming STM’s commitment to broadening Türkiye’s strategic defense ties and reinforcing its position in the global defense industry. The twin agreements with LUNAS and G7 Aerospace mark a milestone in Turkish-Malaysian defense cooperation, blending naval innovation with drone technology to strengthen regional defense capabilities and foster mutual growth.
