Driving Readiness, Resilience, and Regional Partnership
As Middle Eastern defence forces intensify their focus on capability enhancement, localisation, and long-term sustainability, BAE Systems continues to position itself as a committed partner to the region’s evolving strategic priorities. With decades of global experience, combat-proven platforms, and a growing record of in-country collaboration, the company is leveraging its deep expertise to help regional forces strengthen readiness and future-proof their fleets.
In a recent conversation ahead of the World Defense Show 2026, Patrick Hickey, Director of International Business Development for BAE Systems – Platforms & Services, shed light on how the company is shaping the next era of land capability and industrial growth for partners across the Gulf.
Setting the Global Standard in Sustainment
Sustainment sits at the heart of BAE Systems’ value proposition, and the company’s approach is built on one objective: maximising operational readiness.
As the original equipment manufacturer for several of the world’s most relied-upon combat vehicles, BAE Systems brings forward decades of experience supporting platforms inside customer formations.
“We aim to be as proactive as possible”, Hickey explained. “Wherever feasible, our teams are embedded directly with the units, providing predictive maintenance and hands-on technical support to maximise platform availability”.
With hundreds of certified field service representatives deployed globally, the company’s forward-leaning sustainment model ensures that equipment remains mission-ready from day one and continues performing reliably over its entire lifecycle.
Championing Industrialisation and Local Capability Growth
Across the Middle East, governments are prioritizing the development of sovereign defence industrial capacity, and BAE Systems has aligned its strategy to support this vision.
“We recognize that many regional markets are focused on establishing a robust industrial base”, Hickey said. “That’s why technology transfer and deep partnerships with local industry are central to our model”.
By co-developing maintenance, overhaul, and mid-life upgrade programs within customer nations, the company helps create enduring defence ecosystems that extend beyond initial acquisition. This includes dedicated skills development for local engineers, technicians, and program leaders, contributing directly to national workforce development goals.

Advanced Manufacturing and Tailored Modernization
BAE Systems is known for delivering some of the world’s most advanced combat vehicle platforms, tested and proven by US forces and international partners. But the company’s focus in the Middle East goes far beyond platform supply.
“We offer tailored modernization packages that match operational needs, modernization ambitions, and available budgets”, Hickey noted. “Whether upgrading existing fleets or delivering new capability, we build programs around the customer”.
This includes open-architecture designs that allow rapid integration of new technologies, sensors, and systems, an increasingly critical requirement in today’s dynamically evolving threat landscape.
Combat-Proven Platforms Designed for Regional Challenges
From rugged deserts to complex urban environments, the Middle East presents some of the world’s most demanding operating conditions. BAE Systems’ platforms have been repeatedly tested in similar environments, with a record of performance that underpins their value to regional customers.
The Bradley Fighting Vehicle, for example, has demonstrated unmatched survivability, mobility, and lethality over decades of deployment, with recent operational success further validating its performance. The A4 configuration, currently in production, ensures that Bradley remains a fully modern and future-ready platform.
Complementing it is the M88A2 HERCULES, one of the world’s only purpose-built heavy recovery vehicles.
“The M88 can retrieve the heaviest armoured platforms while keeping its crew protected”, Hickey emphasized. “It’s a vehicle designed to recover them all”.
During the discussion, Hickey also highlighted the Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV), a platform delivered in significant numbers to the US Marine Corps and seen as having strong global potential. The ACV is a highly capable, survivable, amphibious solution with versatility that allows it to excel across diverse terrains in any mission, land or sea.
Adaptability for the Modern Battlefield
With threats evolving at unprecedented speed, adaptability has become a defining requirement for armed forces.
“Our platforms are engineered with open architectures that allow rapid upgrades and integration of new effectors and sensor suites”, Hickey said. “This ensures our systems can respond to emerging threats without lengthy redesign cycles”.
Hickey emphasized that BAE Systems offers complete, integrated approaches to modernization, designed to provide customers with fully cohesive system-of-systems solutions when required.
Building Partnerships That Last
Above all, BAE Systems places long-term relationships at the centre of its regional strategy.
“Relationships are everything in this business,” Hickey remarked. “We strive to be a trusted partner, not just a supplier”.
This commitment is reflected in the company’s extensive through-life support model, which places expert technical advisors alongside customer fleets throughout their operational lifespan.
By combining technical depth, combat-proven platforms, and a sustained investment in local capability development, BAE Systems aims to deliver lasting security and economic value for Middle Eastern partners.
As World Defense Show 2026 approaches, the company’s message is clear: its role in the region extends far beyond delivering platforms, it’s about building capability, resilience, and enduring strategic partnership.
