Teledyne FLIR Defense has manufactured and delivered its 3,000th Ranger series surveillance radar, a milestone the company says reflects the growing global demand for its ground-based radar technology. The system, produced entirely at Teledyne FLIR’s Laval, Quebec facility, has now been fielded in more than 40 countries, supporting border security, defense operations, and counter-unmanned aircraft systems (counter-UAS) missions worldwide.
Built and Fielded Across the Globe
The Ranger radars are fully designed and manufactured in Laval, where production first began in 2005. Engineered for flexibility, the systems can be deployed from either fixed installations or mobile platforms, giving operators the ability to rapidly reposition sensor coverage as threats or mission requirements evolve.
A key strength of the Ranger series lies in its detection performance: the radars feature rapid scan rates that allow them to simultaneously track hundreds of targets moving at varying speeds and in different directions, a capability increasingly critical as border security and counter-drone threats grow more complex.
AI-Enabled Upgrades Push the Platform Forward
Teledyne FLIR has continued to evolve the Ranger line with a 360-degree Fast Scan mode that delivers improved refresh rates and sharper threat detection, alongside AI-enabled radar processing for more advanced target classification. The Ranger R20SS variant has already been recognized for this innovation, having previously won Engineers Canada’s National Engineering Product Award.
