Emirates Classification Society “Tasneef” successfully participated in the Seatrade Offshore Marine & Workboats Middle East: a leading event in the region for the workboat and offshore marine industries that took place in the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The event was an excellent opportunity for Tasneef to network and engage with its clients, ship management representatives, vessel owners and equipment manufacturers to discuss new concepts, new technology and best practices.
Eng. Rashed AlHebsi, CEO of Tasneef clarified that due to its strategic geographical location between the East and the West, and the advanced infrastructure of ports that are capable of accommodating offshore ships, the UAE has quickly evolved as the epicenter of global trade as well as witnessing a steady growth in the offshore business. Hosting such an exhibition reflects the nation’s keen interest in the development of both marine and oil & gas sectors that have conventionally contributed to the growth of the national economy.
Al Hebsi said, “Our involvement in the Seatrade gave us the opportunity to highlight the importance of the local maritime sector, which is a fundamental pillar in promoting the economic development and meeting the future needs of the region. The event also highlighted the momentous progress achieved by human element in marine industry, energy, offshore finance & shipbuilding technology along with the logistics services sector in the UAE.”
Mitigation strategies needed by marine sector due to low oil prices
Capt. Waleed AlNahdi, Chief Commercial Officer at Tasneef emphasized that the workboat & offshore industry is incredibly dynamic and complex, and with the existing low oil price situation dominating the market environment, the high level of unpredictability affecting operators, owners and the marine sector as a whole is forcing players to re-evaluate their strategies for better commercial outcomes.
AlNahdi explained, “We aimed to shed more light on Tasneef’s strategy which is specifically designed to make a radical change in the maritime classification industry and contribute to the UAE’s leading position as an international centre for navigation and maritime services. It also follows a set of foundations and essential values based on leadership, excellence in customer service, creativity, cooperation, human wealth, conservation of the marine environment and coping with technology.”
Al Nahdi believes that there has been a significant investment in new on and offshore facilities, services and technology in recent years as clients demand ever higher standards of quality, safety and security. “This is reasonable, as there is demand for cost efficiency but as we look to the long-term profitability of our sector, we need to change and adapt to the new environment. Therefore, the Seatrade event represented a fantastic opportunity to debate effective strategies, address the issues from service supplies, build partnerships with local and international companies in addition to opening new business opportunities and relations with our key clients,” Al Nahdi concluded.
