Harmattan Al and the Kingdom of Morocco Announce the Development of IRIFI

Excellence in the Service of Autonomy

Harmattan Al is proud to announce the signing of a Letter Of Intent with the Kingdom of Morocco for the development of IRIFI, a sovereign Moroccan autonomous deep-strike system.

The letter of intent was signed on Wednesday, October 7, during the Marrakech Air Show, in the presence of Mr. Abdeltif LOUDYI, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of the National Defense Administration; General Mohammed BERRID, Inspector General of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone; Mouad M’Ghari, CEO of Harmattan Al; and Amir Benmahjoub, General Manager of Harmattan Al Morocco; as well as senior officials from the National Defense Administration and senior military officers.

IRIFI is a drone designed to conduct deep-strike missions at a range of 2,000 km (1,240 mi). Before launch, commanders designate the authorized targets and set the mission parameters. Once the mission has been approved and launched, IRIFI conducts it autonomously within the boundaries set by its human commander. Its GNSS-independent autonomous navigation system and optical terminal guidance enable it to carry out its mission autonomously, including during low-altitude flight.

The development of this technology aims to allow human forces to focus on high-value missions, such as planning and strategic decision-making, while entrusting the autonomous system with the entire execution of the mission in order to maximize its effectiveness.

A Sovereign System

Critical technological components will be developed and produced in Morocco, mostly by Moroccan talent. This approach demonstrates Harmattan Al’s commitment to producing sovereign defense systems and to expanding Morocco’s defense industrial and technological base towards technological excellence.

This new programme builds on the partnership signed in June 2026 between Harmattan Al, the National Defense Administration and the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces, which aims to develop a sovereign Moroccan defense industrial and technological base and establish a Harmattan Al R&D centre in Rabat.

Mouad M’Ghari, CEO of Harmattan Al, said: “This announcement demonstrates our commitment to innovating as rapidly as possible to develop critical defense technologies. Just four months after establishing our presence in Morocco, it is an honour for Harmattan Al to stand alongside the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces in developing a sovereign programme. The Shahed is cheap and easy to produce at scale, but it is imprecise and easy to shoot down. Tomahawks and Storm Shadows are exquisite pieces of technology with high survivability, but they are expensive and produced in very limited numbers. Al-powered autonomy now makes it possible to combine the best of both worlds, and that is exactly what we did with IRIF.”

On this occasion, the Minister stated: “With the implementation of this project to manufacture a sovereign Moroccan drone, the Royal defense industry initiative, which benefits from the High Solicitude of His Majesty the King, continues to grow in importance and establish itself as a strategic sector of national significance, putting into practice the High Directives set out in the Royal Speech on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the Sovereign’s accession to the throne of his glorious ancestors.”
