Cheap Drones Are the Masters of War

Patricia Marins

Wired and wireless FPVs have dominated the battlefield for almost two years. Simple and affordable FPV drones in this new landscape will be capable of sweeping dozens of kilometers of front lines. Advanced units deploy signal repeaters that extend the range of the drones and dissipate the signal, making it harder for electronic warfare (EW) apparatus to operate.

Drones with modified firmware are prepared to lie in wait for the enemy on rooftops and hidden under leaves, acting as true active and flying mines, creating a real nightmare.

This is a reality that is here to stay and will soon become a fundamental part of battles in the air and at sea.

Nations spending $50 million on military vehicles have yet to understand that we are immersed in a drastic shift, which will render many of these pieces of equipment obsolete long before they are deployed on the battlefield.

The focus now is on the integration of AI, enhancement of sensors, longer-lasting batteries, and the development of countermeasures such as guard drones and the use of networks.

We are on the brink of new times, brought forth by a war that fuses WWI trenches with futuristic aspects.
