Airbus, recognizing continuous quality improvement initiatives, awarded the 2014 Best Industrial Performer in the engines and nacelles supplier category to the V2500 engine program. The honor was bestowed as part of Airbus’ supply chain and quality improvement program (SQIP), which recognizes suppliers for their performance and commitment to on-time and on-quality delivery targets. The V2500 engine is offered through IAE International Aero Engines AG, a multinational aero engine consortium whose shareholders comprise Pratt & Whitney, Pratt & Whitney Aero Engines International GmbH, Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines.
“We are committed to meeting the growing requirement for Airbus programs and the quality initiatives we’ve put into place on the V2500 engine have resulted in demonstrated improvements,” said Chris Flynn, vice president, Quality, Pratt & Whitney. “We are taking these lessons learned and applying them to the A320neo engine to ensure a successful ramp. I’m extremely proud of the dedicated employees supporting Airbus programs for their efforts to better meet our customer’s needs.”
“The support of our V2500 engine partner companies and suppliers allowed us to introduce changes to enhance the processes and reduce the turnaround time to resolve issues,” Flynn explained. “This resulted in a 99.8 percent on-time delivery rate, a significant improvement and one that Airbus appreciated and recognized. This metric is now considered best in class.”
The engine powers the A320ceo (current engine offering), offering the most advanced technologies in the 22,000- to 33,000-pound thrust range with lowest overall emissions in its class.
