Nasmyth has already played host to Morgane Jouisse a graduate of Supméca Institut supérieur de mécanique de Paris who spent a very successful six months with Nasmyth Group company, Bulwell Precision Engineers Ltd in Nottinghamshire. Morgane will also be joining Nasmyth Group on its stand at the Paris Air Show.
One of the key themes of The Paris Air Show is the global skills shortage in the aerospace industry. The Show will provide an important platform for promoting the opportunities offered by Nasmyth Academy. One of the features of the Show will be a mock-up A320 ‘Careers Plane’ highlighting the variety of careers available in the industry.
Chairman and CEO of Nasmyth Group, Peter Smith, commented:
“Bringing young people into the industry and providing them with the experience, the support and the opportunities they need to develop their careers is vital not only for the future of our own business but also for the future of the UK economy as a whole. Opening up Nasmyth Academy to graduates from European universities is an exciting move and one that reinforces our close working links with the European aerospace manufacturing sector, particularly in France which currently has the second largest aerospace industry in the world.”
Nasmyth Academy was officially launched in January 2015 to build on, and provide a focus for, the investment that the Group was already making in the apprenticeship schemes it was running in many of its subsidiary businesses. Designed to encourage more young people to embark on careers in both aerospace and engineering in general, the Academy provides practical experience across a wide range of roles as well as support for obtaining qualifications right through to degree and MBA level.
Apprentices currently make up over 10% of the Group’s 800 strong UK workforce and the number is set to increase in response to growing demand in all areas.
Nasmyth Group brings together the collective expertise, resources and technology of 12 customer-orientated precision engineering businesses. By continually investing in resources and design, manufacturing and repair technologies, Nasmyth Group delivers integrated, practical and market-leading solutions to the specific business and product requirements of its customers.
