HAVELSAN TO UNVEIL AVISTA, ITS NEW UNDERWATER AUTONOMY PROJECTBuilding on the significant expertise it has developed through SANCAR and RAFNAR in the field of unmanned marine vehicles, HAVELSAN will unveil AVISTA, its new self-funded R&D project, for the first time.
Through the AVISTA project, HAVELSAN aims to develop national capabilities for precise positioning in underwater environments where GNSS access is unavailable, three-dimensional underwater mapping, ship hull inspection, protection of critical underwater structures, and integrated underwater security capabilities.
The AVISTA project was initiated in response to the high cost of underwater sensors and customs-related restrictions affecting procurement. It aims to develop cost-effective and readily available sensors, along with algorithms that enable intelligent and autonomous platform capabilities. The project will also establish the technological foundation for capabilities intended for direct application in HAVELSAN’s ÇAKA Submersible Hybrid Unmanned Marine Vehicle (H-UMV) project.
HAVELSAN will unveil the AVISTA project for the first time at TEKNOFEST Blue Homeland.
Platform-Independent Software Architecture
HAVELSAN is using a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) with six degrees of freedom as the platform for AVISTA’s development and testing activities.
AVISTA is being developed with platform-independent algorithms and software architecture. This approach is intended to facilitate AVISTA’s future integration into different underwater vehicles and enable coordinated operation with the ADVENT Combat Management System.
Military and Civilian Applications
AVISTA, which is currently in the R&D phase, is being developed with an integrated underwater positioning system, underwater mapping, ship hull inspection, and underwater navigation corridor planning capabilities.
The capabilities developed under the project are also expected to support civilian and public security applications, including underwater search and rescue operations, forensic investigations, the underwater inspection of infrastructure and energy facilities, and port and facility security.
HAVELSAN’s indigenous algorithms are intended for direct integration into platforms designed to remain concealed underwater for extended periods and operate with a low acoustic signature.
Sea trials of AVISTA are planned to begin in the near future. The capabilities developed under the project will contribute to the anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, mine warfare, and seabed warfare capabilities supported by the ADVENT MÜREN Combat Management System.
HAVELSAN aims to make its new products and solutions in the field of underwater technologies ready for operational use in 2027.
