The Pentagon signed framework agreements on Wednesday with BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, and Honeywell, aimed at expanding the production capacity of munitions and defense systems, as part of Washington’s efforts to place its armed forces on a “war footing.”
The announcements came more than three weeks after President Donald Trump and Israel launched their military operation against Iran, and following Trump’s meeting earlier this month with executives from seven major defense companies to replenish weapons stockpiles depleted by U.S. strikes on Iran and other military operations.
Under the agreements, Honeywell Aerospace will “increase production of critical components for U.S. munitions stockpiles” through a multi-year investment of $500 million. BAE Systems and Lockheed Martin will jointly quadruple production of seekers for the THAAD interceptor missile, while the framework agreement with Lockheed also includes accelerating production of the Precision Strike Missile.
Honeywell stated that the agreement will support increased output in navigation systems, missile guidance motors, and electronic warfare products deployed across all U.S. military platforms. CEO Jim Kavic affirmed that Honeywell is ready to respond to urgent demand.
In the same context, Lockheed Martin CEO Jim Taiclet announced that his company is “working in close coordination with the Department of Defense and the U.S. military to increase production capacity in response to operational demand.”
Trump had signed an executive order in January directing officials to identify contractors falling behind on their government contracts, while his administration has continued to intensify pressure on defense companies to prioritize production over shareholder dividends. Commenting on his earlier meeting with executives, Trump said: “We discussed production and production schedules” — referring to his meeting with representatives from Lockheed Martin, RTX, BAE Systems, Boeing, Honeywell Aerospace, L3Harris Technologies, and Northrop Grumman.
