The global Eurofighter Typhoon fleet has reached a historic milestone, passing one million flying hours.
The landmark comes with the aircraft in service with nine nations across Europe and the Middle East at a critical time for global security.
Typhoon is operated in the Middle East by the air forces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar which have collectively contributed hundreds of thousands of flying hours to the milestone.
Richard Hamilton, Managing Director – Air Operations at BAE Systems, part of a four-nation consortium behind the aircraft said: “This achievement is testament to the role the aircraft plays with air forces across Europe and the Middle East providing around-the-clock security of our skies.
“Our people at BAE Systems have been at the heart of supporting this achievement. In the UK, they have enabled the Royal Air Force to fly hundreds of thousands of hours with our teams in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman supporting our customers to fly many critical missions.”
Air Vice Marshal Simon Ellard, General Manager, NETMA (the NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency) said: “Reaching one million flying hours is a powerful testament to Typhoon’s performance and reliability.
“Whether it’s the pilots, ground crew, support staff or our industry partners, behind each of these flying hours is a remarkable and dedicated group of people who ensure that Typhoon keeps us safe and remains the world’s most advanced multi-role combat aircraft.”
The milestone follows news that the Republic of Türkiye will become the tenth operator of Typhoon, having signed an agreement with the UK to acquire 20 aircraft with an associated weapons package.
Typhoon will be on display at this year’s World Defense Show with BAE Systems (Hall 1 – F14) showcasing its work to develop the aircraft’s future capability. Visitors can also learn about BAE Systems’ broader technological breakthroughs and expertise across land, sea, air, space and cyber.
