Russia’s T-90 tanks rank among the best in the world, President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with India Today.
“And there’s the production of armored vehicles. India is manufacturing our renowned T-90 tanks. Trust me when I tell you that these tanks rank among the best in the world. Moreover, the famous BrahMos missile – a joint venture between Russia and India – is manufactured primarily at Indian facilities,” Putin added.
Currently Russia is marketing the latest T-90MS version. The upgraded T-90MS was presented for the first time this year at IDEX 2025 in Abu Dhabi. The displayed tank received the latest technologies and new technical solutions. It has reactive armor, bar screens, electronic warfare against drones, and differentiated armor principle. It is therefore protected against FPV drones, antitank missiles and grenades, underlined Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheyev. The tank also has a new fire control system and integrated information-command system and other innovative solutions. T-90MS has a higher firepower due to new armor-piercing subcaliber, fragmentation shells with remote detonation, and guided missiles.

According to the Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) corporation, the same tank that was exhibited at IDEX 2025 later was sent to the Russian Army performing battle tasks during the special military operation in Ukraine.
“Vehicle, which we showed abroad for the first time, was modified taking into account the vast experience of the special military operation. It was sent to our troops in practically the same configuration as that demonstrated at the exhibition in the UAE,” said UVZ after IDEX expo.
Earlier UVZ CEO Alexander Potapov disclosed, that since the beginning of the special military operation, over a hundred changes have been made to the design of tanks. According to him, tank from early 2022 and a current tank are “two different combat vehicles”.
As the Russian Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade (CAWAT) underlined in its October “The Global Armored Vehicle Market: Winners and Losers” report, Russia is one of the world’s top three tank producers and exporters, along with China and the United States.
CAWAT: “Interest in Russian defense industry products remains high. Visitors to the IDEX 2025 exhibition were particularly impressed by the T-90MS, featuring improved protection against kamikaze drones, modern anti-tank systems, and hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers… Russian weapons undergo much more rigorous fire testing, which facilitates continuous improvement based on combat experience with high-tech adversaries. For example, during the more than three-year special military operation in Ukraine, numerous modifications were made to discontinued equipment (including the T-62B, T-72B3/M, T-80BVM, early T-90 modifications, etc.), as well as to those in serial production (T-90M, etc.). Thus, the states that traditionally look to Russia for military-technical cooperation are guaranteed to receive combat-tested weapons of the highest class”.
