«Yakovlev» specialists (part of PJSC UAC of Rostec State Corporation) have manufactured the second prototype of the Yak-130M combat trainer as part of the research and development work. The aircraft is painted in pixel camouflage, traditional for Russian aviation. Afterward this aircraft will join ground and flight tests. The third prototype is in simultaneous production.
The first Yak-130M prototype has been recently built at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. It will focus on ground and flight tests.
«The Yak-130M was developed on the basis of the analysis and best practices related to aviation engagement in local and regional conflicts. Creation of light combat aircraft on the basis of combat trainers is in line with the global development trends in military aviation», said Dmitry Popov, Deputy Chief Designer for the Yak-130 program.
The Yak-130M derives from the Yak-130 aircraft, its characteristics make it possible to train pilots of fighters of the fourth and fifth generations. The main purpose of the modernization is to enhance combat capabilities of the aircraft. The upgraded aircraft can be armed with air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles.
The integration of the new onboard systems will enable operating the Yak-130M for training and combat purposes around the clock and in adverse weather conditions. Thus, the aircraft was equipped with an BRLS-130R airborne radar, an SOLT-130K optical-laser-IR-imaging system, an “President-S130” aircraft defense system and a KSS-130 communications suite.
