The U.S. State Department has greenlit a potential Foreign Military Sale to Türkiye, featuring AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and related equipment, valued at approximately $225 million USD.
The proposed package includes 53 AIM-120C-8 missiles, 6 guidance sections, along with associated containers, support tools, spare parts, classified software, documentation, and logistics services.
According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, this sale is crucial for supporting U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives. It aims to strengthen a vital NATO ally and promote stability in Europe. The AMRAAM system will enhance Türkiye’s air defense capabilities, safeguarding both its territory and U.S. personnel stationed there. This transaction is not anticipated to disrupt the regional military balance.
RTX Corporation (formerly Raytheon) will serve as the principal contractor. No offset agreements have been confirmed, and the sale will not necessitate the deployment of additional U.S. personnel or impact U.S. defense readiness.
