Combat Experience-Based Upgrades to Increase Demand for Russian Weapons – Think-Tank

Russian weapons that have passed through the current warfare in Ukraine, are adapted to the realities of modern warfare, have undergone a number of modifications, and will be in increased demand in the world in the future, said the leading Russian defense think-tank Centre for Analysis of World Arms Trade (CAWAT).

Russian main battle tank developer and manufacturer Uralvagonzavod corporation on 31st Dec announced that it successfully completed year 2024 by fulfilling two contracts on T-90M Proryv and modernized T-72B3 tanks delivery to the Russian Defense Ministry. The UVZ specified that with the start of the special military operation, over a hundred changes were made to the design of the tanks.

“It is quite obvious that after the goals of the special military operation are achieved, Russian weapons will be in increased demand in the world in the future, and we are talking not only about tanks, but also about almost the entire spectrum of export-oriented military products. What is the reason for such a forecast? First of all, Russian weapons that have passed through the special military operation zone – and all potential buyers understand this – are adapted to the realities of modern warfare, have undergone a number of modifications, improvements and enhancements taking into account the experience of real combat operations”, said CAWAT.

At the same time, according to the think-tank, the Russian special military operation in Ukraine showed that the armor of the Leopard, Abrams and other Western armored vehicles could not withstand strikes from Russian artillery, ATGMs, drones and loitering munitions.

“In general, Western equipment is capricious in operation, requires “greenhouse conditions” during maintenance, is extremely difficult to repair in the field, and has also demonstrated extremely low cross-country ability. Footage of destroyed Western armored vehicles flew around the world, which certainly had a negative impact on its image among potential customers”, said the Russian think-tank.

According to the UVZ, all its vehicles now equipped with anti-FVP drone nets and rubber-reinforced protection

“Stern, engine, and engine-transmission compartment of the tanks received additional protection. The equipment is also equipped with means of reducing visibility, electronic warfare systems to counter drones”, said the Russian tank manufacturer.

“A tank of the early 2022 model and a tank of the end of 2024 are, one might say, two different combat vehicles. For example, if we talk about the protection system, it did not anticipate many of the challenges that we faced literally from the first days of the special military operation,” – noted Alexander Potapov, General Director of Concern Uralvagonzavod.
