Algeria received the second of four ordered Russian Be-200ChS amphibious aircraft

Algeria received the second Be-200ES amphibious aircraft built at Taganrog aviation scientific and technical complex named after G.M. Beriev.

On December 12, 2024, the Be-200ES amphibious aircraft with the Algerian registration number 7T-VPN, which received a white and green paint job and the emblem of the customer country’s Air Force, left Taganrog and went to Algeria.

This is the second aircraft built at TANTK for an African country under a contract for the construction of four Be-200ES aircraft in an export version (Be-200ES) for the Algerian Ministry of National Defense. The agreement was signed in 2021 and includes an option for two more aircraft.

Algeria chose the Russian aircraft even before testing it in real conditions. In 2022, Algeria leased one amphibious aircraft from Russia, which was very helpful in extinguishing fires that were burning in 13 regions of the country.

According to previously announced information, the Algerian Defense Ministry plans to use two aircraft for the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and two more will be part of the country’s Navy and will be used to transport troops and cargo. It is not yet clear whether the option for two more aircraft will be used. The construction of the aircraft is behind schedule; initially, Algeria was supposed to receive the second amphibious aircraft after the first in 2023, and two more in 2024. In reality, by the end of this year, the Algerians received only the second aircraft.

It is worth noting that the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations is still waiting for two aircraft under the contract signed in December 2020. The first of them was completed for Algeria, and the second is still being completed, all attention is given to the foreign contract.
