Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), a leading provider of construction, repair and refit services for naval, military and commercial vessels, announced on February 25, 2015 the completion of the Ghannatha Phase II project, delivering 24 Ghannatha class ships to the UAE Navy.
The Ghannatha Class Fast Missile Boats are 27m high speed multi-role Combat Vessels that can be utilized as a unit of a task force, single unit or in non-combat operations. The Ghannatha Class Fast Missile Boats feature a propulsion system consisting of two MTU main engines to drive two Rolls-Royce FF 600 water jets giving a speed of 45 knots.
Under the project remit, ADSB has delivered 12 new and 12 retro-fitted Ghannatha ships.
Six vessels were retrofitted as mortar boats, with 120mm Nemo guns and a 12.7mm aft gun. The mortar boats are also fitted with GEM radar technology and updated VHF/UHG communications. An additional six vessels were retrofitted for use as gun boats, with a 27mm gun and 12.7mm gun, and the ability to accommodate up to 40 marines.
For the new Ghannatha ships, ADSB constructed the hull and deck, as well as the wheelhouse and bilge arrangement – constructed with aluminum. All ships feature the combat system suite, which includes missile system capabilities in both the task force mission and standalone operations. The GEM Radar allows the ships to provide indications and track data.
Dr. Khaled Al Mazrouei, CEO of ADSB, said: “We are delighted to continue our work with the UAE Navy in relation to the Ghannatha fleet of ships. Outfitting the Navy with best-in-class ships is truly a source of great pride. We thank the UAE Navy for their continued confidence in our capabilities.”
