Assemblyman Carl Heastie, who recently became the Speaker of the New York State Assembly, visited our Endicott, N.Y., site to meet employees and receive briefings on our Controls and Avionics Solutions and HybriDrive Solutions businesses as well as the breadth of work BAE Systems performs in New York.
Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, of District 123, accompanied the Speaker on his visit. Assemblywoman Lupardo is a member of the State Assembly committees on environmental conservation, transportation, and economic development.
“New York is home to a diverse range of industries, and our communities benefit tremendously from that diversity. On a recent visit to BAE Systems’ facility in the Southern Tier I was able to see, firsthand, the positive impact that the company has made and learn about the unique challenges they face, not just as an employer but as a partner to federal, state, and local governments,” said Speaker Heastie. “We are truly fortunate that our state attracts global innovators like BAE Systems, who have played such a big part in helping us reach the environmental and economic development goals that will shape the future of these communities and our state.”
Speaker Heastie toured the HybriDrive Solutions manufacturing floor to learn more about how BAE Systems’ hybrid technology for transit buses saves 11 million gallons of diesel fuel and prevents more than 120,000 tons of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere each year. He also took a ride on one of HybriDrive Solutions’ test buses equipped with the latest Series-E propulsion technology, which allows transit agencies to run on all electric power through environmentally-sensitive areas and to pick-up and drop-off passengers at bus stops without noise or emissions.
“Working in collaboration with state and federal government is key on several levels for BAE Systems, and we’re thankful for the relationship we have with our state representatives,” said HybriDrive Solutions Vice President and General Manager Steve Trichka. “The opportunity to introduce Speaker Heastie to what we do here in Endicott is important as we continue to seek support in Albany for cleaner, more efficient public transit.”
