Pentagon Awards $122.5M Contract to Lockheed Martin to Boost Missile Production

The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded Lockheed Martin a $122.5 million contract to support the expansion of its production facilities in Orlando, Florida. This investment aims to increase the manufacturing capacity for the AGM-158B JASSM-ER long-range cruise missile and the AGM-158C LRASM anti-ship missile.

Signed in March, the contract is expected to be completed by mid-July 2028. Lockheed Martin will utilize the funding to procure essential tooling and diagnostic equipment, ensuring a more efficient production process to meet rising domestic and international demand.

The decision to expand production stems from growing requirements within the U.S. military and a rising number of international customers. To fulfill potential export orders in a timely manner, Lockheed Martin must enhance its production capabilities.

One of the key advantages of these missiles is their compatibility with the F-35 Lightning II fighter jet. With 19 nations already operating or planning to adopt the F-35, this integration significantly broadens the market for the AGM-158 missile series.

The AGM-158 JASSM has already been exported to Australia, Finland, and Poland, with additional countries placing orders through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, highlighting its increasing global demand.

Similarly, the AGM-158C LRASM anti-ship missile has gained traction in the export market, with Australia being the first confirmed purchaser. Other nations, including Poland, have also shown interest in acquiring this advanced missile system.
