Roketsan’s ALKA: A New Era in Drone Defense

The Turkish defense company Roketsan’s laser-guided energy weapon system, ALKA, plays a crucial role in countering small drone threats.

In a statement released, the company indicated that the ALKA laser weapon is capable of protecting vital military installations and government institutions from threats that are difficult to target with conventional small arms.

The company explained that the nature of threats has evolved with technological advancements, necessitating the use of new types of defense systems.

ALKA has successfully neutralized numerous small and very small drone threats since 2019, the statement noted.

It can track 100 targets simultaneously using its drone detection radar, ensuring reliable air defense at a range of 750 to 1500 meters.

Roketsan reported that the laser weapon operates both day and night, can be used in populated areas, and can destroy roadside improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and unexploded ordnance (UXO).

In the company’s statement, General Manager Murat İkinci said that ALKA is distinguished by its ability to track and neutralize multiple targets simultaneously using its dedicated detection radar, as well as its ability to defend against drone attacks.

İkinci noted that ALKA will be part of the “Iron Dome” project, which will provide layered air defense in Turkey’s skies.

He added, “Following its integration into the Turkish Armed Forces’ inventory, we continue our efforts to export ALKA to friendly and allied countries.”
