General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) unveiled its new armored vehicle LAV-700 Desert Viper during the Doha International Maritime Defense Equipment Exhibition (DIMDEX).
The LAV-700 represents a quantum leap in the world of armored vehicles, as it was developed on the basis of the famous LAV-6 vehicle with radical improvements in various fields.
The most prominent features of the LAV-700 Desert Viper:
- Larger hull: Provides better protection for the crew and soldiers from various threats.
- Stronger armor: Effectively withstands light artillery fire and heavy weapons.
- Higher payload: Up to 11 tons, allowing for the transport of more troops and equipment.
- Stronger engine: With 711 horsepower, it gives the vehicle exceptional performance on various terrains.
The LAV-700 can be equipped with a 50mm Bushmaster XM-913 cannon, giving it devastating firepower. The ballistic protection of the fuel tanks has also been enhanced to increase its survivability on the battlefield.
The LAV-700 weighs approximately 21 tons. It provides all-round protection from 14.5mm caliber projectiles and frontal protection from 30mm caliber projectiles. The LAV-700 has a top speed of 110 km/h and a range of 1000 km.
The LAV-700 can be deployed in different versions, such as:
- Armored personnel carrier: To safely transport troops to the battlefield.
- Combat vehicle: Equipped with a heavy machine gun or rocket launcher.
- Combat support vehicle: Equipped with a 105mm cannon.
