In line with its ongoing commitment to strengthening the cyber security landscape in Malaysia, BAE Systems announced on the 2nd of September that it is bringing cloud-based cyber security to commercial organisations in Malaysia for the first time.
BAE Systems protects the digital assets of more than 5,500 organisations worldwide. The company’s security business, BAE Systems Applied Intelligence – named Malaysia’s "Cyber Security Company of the Year 2014" – has a strong presence in Malaysia with over 275 employees at its Global Engineering Centre, located in Kuala Lumpur, which focuses on local delivery and support of the company’s cyber and financial crime detection services.
Building on its strong presence and portfolio in the country, BAE Systems is augmenting its security offering of on-premise and managed security services with new cloud-based services. This is a natural progression to meet high customer demand for a wide and flexible portfolio of cyber security solutions.
With 95 per cent of cyber attacks starting with an email message, the first set of cloud-based products that BAE Systems is introducing in Malaysia comprises BAE Systems’ Email Protection Services (EPS) which provides comprehensive protection against advanced threats. The offerings include:

Email Encryption
Email Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam
Email Archiving
Email Business Continuity
And with 70-90% of malware being unique to any single organisation, the most difficult attacks to defend against are Zero Day attacks – attacks that are unknown or have not previously been seen and that, as a consequence, require advanced defence. Therefore, a core element of BAE Systems’ EPS solution is Zero Day Prevention, which provides customers with the most advanced protection from the sophisticated threats.
Most importantly, the technology is based on innovative and pioneering techniques which analyse the email in the cloud for malicious content and intent, before it reaches the recipient.
Additionally, one of the biggest risks to businesses is the threat of employees who accidentally or purposefully leak data. Most companies are unprepared for this kind of problem, but BAE Systems makes it easy to find and investigate insider issues with its Insider Threat Prevention service, which forms part of the EPS product suite.

BAE Systems has been instrumental in deploying cyber security expertise and capability in Malaysia in close partnership with local Malaysian organisations and authorities.
Last year, BAE Systems was named by CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) – the nation’s cyber security specialist agency under the Ministry of Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) – as “Cyber Security Company of the Year 2014”. The award was received in recognition of a number of factors, including degree of innovation, impact of that innovation on the industry, its financial success, client wins and value enhancement, as well as its commitment to and investment in R&D.
BAE Systems has signed a MoU with CyberSecurity Malaysia to establish a general framework for potential collaborations in the field of cyber security and is funding a post-graduate programme in Cyber Security at the National Defence University of Malaysia.
The launch of its cloud-based portfolio is part of its ongoing commitment to strengthen the cyber security space in Malaysia.
